Collage Architecture from vernacular Iranian Architecture

We usually only notice a tools when it somehow fails; An earthquake draws my attention to the flat ground on which I stand. Just as medical problems attract me to the organs of my body that I need in silence. (Harman)

Iranian vernacular architecture has been influenced by various factors repeating over the centuries. These factors have often been outside of the architectural knowledge and eventually merged with it. As a result architectural form adapted itself to serve program, function, climate, context and many other factors. The formal elements of this architecture have always had a predetermined definition in the past centuries.

This project tries to unburden the formal language of Iranian architecture from function and recreates it in an unfamiliar way. This projects starts the design proccess not from a blank canvas but using a combination of found objects selected from the repository of Iranian vernacular architecture. Thus unprecedented situations are created in which the formal language of Iranian historical architecture deviates from its common state. This is a speculative reality, which comes from the heart of an ever-familiar situation, and yet it is fundamentally different from it.
